THE MISSION OF THE SOCIETY OF THE SACRED AND IMMACULATE HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY (SSIH)
Deus Caritas Est — God Is Love (1 John 4:8)
A Mission for the Glory of God, the Sanctification of Souls, and the Service of Holy Mother Church.
The Society of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SSIH) is a Traditional Catholic Society in Nigeria, comprising of Clergy and Religious, united in a common apostolate of faith, prayer, religious formation, evangelisation, and works of Christian charity.
Under the patronage of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Society seeks to advance the glory of God, the sanctification of souls, the formation of faithful servants of the altar, and the restoration of all things in Christ. Its spiritual life is rooted in the perennial teachings of the Catholic Church, devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ, filial love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, reverence for the Sacred Liturgy, and fidelity to the Traditional Spiritual and Doctrinal heritage of the Church.
Our principal motto, Deus Caritas Est — God Is Love (1 John 4:8), expresses our conviction that God is the source and perfection of all true Charity, inspiring us to pursue holiness, form faithful priests and religious, proclaim the Gospel, and serve Christ in our neighbour through education, care for the vulnerable and works of mercy.
Our complementary motto, Cor Unum et Anima Una — One Heart and One Soul (Acts 4:32), expresses our desire to live in unity of faith, charity, prayer, and apostolic purpose, following the example of the early Christians who persevered in the teaching of the Apostles, in fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayer. Together, these mottoes embody our mission to unite love of God with love of neighbour, working with one heart and one soul for the glory of the Most Holy Trinity, the sanctification of souls, and the good of Holy Mother Church.
The Society of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary appeals to faithful Catholics, friends of the Church, and persons of goodwill throughout the world to consider supporting its apostolate.
Our present needs include the development of religious and formation facilities, support for the life and work of the clergy and nuns, educational initiatives, the care and formation of vulnerable children and less privileged, evangelisation, vocational training, and other works of Christian charity.
Our broader fundraising objective is ₦500,000,000, intended to advance these interconnected aspects of the Society's mission. This is an ambitious goal, and its realisation will depend upon the generosity of benefactors, the prudent management of available resources, and the gradual development of our projects according to priority and need.
We welcome assistance in whatever measure Providence permits. A contribution towards a particular need, a commitment to pray for the Society, the sharing of our mission with others, or the offering of professional assistance can all help advance this work.
We invite benefactors to become partners in a mission that seeks to unite the contemplation of Divine things with practical service to our neighbour: forming souls in the Faith, preparing candidates for continued religious formation, supporting Consecrated life, educating the young, and extending the works of mercy to those in need.
For the Glory of the Most Holy Trinity, the Society of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary desires to place all its endeavours under the loving patronage of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
May Our Lord Jesus Christ be known and loved in every heart. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church and model of perfect discipleship, intercede for our Clergy, Religious, benefactors, and all entrusted to our care. May St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, obtain for us the grace of fidelity, provision for our needs, and perseverance in our vocation.
With humility, faith, and confidence in Divine Providence, we continue this work for the greater glory of God, the sanctification of souls, the good of Holy Mother Church, and the service of our neighbour.
