At the moment, my life is ashes, and it is being turned into beauty by our God in heaven. I used to sit in prayer in the secret place and ask the Lord when my chance would be to serve him openly. So now, as the piece of my life that was holding me back, turns to ashes it is freeing me to move in God‘s will on a greater scale. Not just quietly intercessing from the secret place of my prayer closet. He heard the desires of my heart and has released to me the beauty of the mission field he has prepared for me, changing it from the laundromat and the grocery store and calling me to the mission field of Ghana, Africa!
My heart is filled with delight and honor to take 2 1/2 weeks out of my life to help serve a poverty stricken nation and a people that I do not know. To tell them the good news, that sin and death have been defeated through the blood of Christ Jesus, that in Christ they are a new creation, no longer a slave to sin but to righteousness and their God-given inheritance is an eternal life with God free from sickness, sorrow, and pain despite what they are experiencing in this life. He did not say it will be easy but that we will have trials and tribulations. That with him we would fear no evil for he is with us, and the battle belongs to him. Just trust in him, for this world will soon pass away and a glorious eternal life with our Father in heaven will remain!
(That’s pretty good news, if I should say so myself.)
It will take us 26 hours to travel to the southern part of Ghana and move north. The mission group I will be traveling with is called John‘s Heart. They have been working in unison with another group (CMM) that has over the last five years planted 7 Christian schools and 12 Christian churches in the villages of Ghana. During our time there my group and I (we are 4 in total) will be visiting these places that were previously established. We will be bringing clothing and shoes for those in need, as the places that we are going are extremely impoverished-some are in parts of the ‘bush country.’ We will be doing a medical outreach where we will test for malaria and low hemoglobin. There will be lots of prayer and trusting God to move. We will assist in the planting of another church in a Muslim community. When we arrive the church leaders from the villages where churches were planted will be assembling for a conference in that city, and we will be teaching them about freedom. “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1) “Who the Son sets free, is free indeed!” (John 8:36)
When we go to the schools, we will pray, and we will play with the children. God-willing some of these children will grow up to go off to University. Some may become doctors, teachers and lawyers. Yes, that seems usual for where we live, but for them it is the exception to the rule, the poverty runs so deep.
The last time this group went down they assisted in putting in a dam for one of the villages; it was a big project.
As you may be aware, this kind of travel is expensive and every prayer and every contribution means so much and are greatly appreciated. Not only by me, but also by the people that we are going there to serve. It is life changing work, again not just for them, it will also be for me as well. These finances will cover travel, luggage, lodging, and food for the trip.
