A Decorated Officer Let Down by the Justice System
Dante has always answered the call of duty with integrity and courage. Throughout his service with the Waukegan Police Department, he received multiple awards for bravery and dedication to the people of Waukegan. He put his life on the line countless times to protect his fellow officers and his community, and his record speaks for itself.
Yet, despite his unwavering commitment, the City of Waukegan and the Waukegan Police Department terminated his employment without an investigation, denying him his lawful rights to due process. The very organization made up of officers like Dante has been unable to support him as he would support his fellow officers — many are afraid to speak out due to political pressures and fear of retaliation.
These charges were brought in the heat of a state's attorney's election campaign marked by division and political opportunism, not by a fair and honest search for the truth. Dante is now facing unjust legal challenges for doing what any reasonable officer and God-fearing man would do — protecting a fellow officer in need.

Many people assume that when an officer faces criminal charges, their union steps in to fully fund their defense. We wish that were true for Dante.
The reality is this: after years of paying union dues and standing shoulder to shoulder with fellow officers, Dante has been informed that the union's financial support is capped at $25,000 — a clause buried in the fine print of the contract that was never clearly communicated to officers. For a criminal use-of-force defense case, which routinely costs well into six figures, $25,000 is simply not enough. Expert witnesses alone — including use-of-force specialists and law enforcement professionals whose testimony is essential to presenting the truth — can cost tens of thousands of dollars. That doesn't include extended legal proceedings, court costs, or the full scope of representation that a case of this magnitude demands.
Dante is not complaining about his union brothers and sisters — many of whom privately support him but feel they cannot speak out due to fear of political retaliation. But the hard truth is that he and his family are bearing the overwhelming financial weight of this fight largely on their own. That is why this fundraiser exists. That is why your donation matters.
