I’m writing to share an exciting opportunity that God has opened up for me to serve in Peru this January!
I’m Wesley Shorey, I’m 15 years old, and I have the chance to participate in a short-term missions trip with BOATCAMP AVENTURA MISIONERA, a ministry of Pioneers Missions. I’ll be part of a teen missions team, and my mom will be joining me as a volunteer, chaperone, and Spanish translator.
During our time in Peru, we’ll travel aboard El Evangelista, a missionary boat along the Ucayali River. The Evangelical Missionary Church of Pucallpa partners with local churches and other ministries to bring the gospel to remote communities with limited access to resources and services. The Ucayali region is home to at least 21 ethnic groups, including indigenous communities with little access to the biblical gospel.
Through community service, sports, the arts, and time spent connecting with local people, our team will have opportunities to share the love of Christ and the message of salvation.
The vision of this ministry is to evangelize the lost, support communities, and train the next generation of missionaries with a strong foundation in biblical truth. This trip is an opportunity for me to learn what it means to follow Jesus and take part in His mission by serving others and sharing His love.
As I prepare for this experience, I’m studying Spanish and I’ll be taking missions classes there to deepen my understanding. The classes focus on following the example of Jesus, reflecting the character of God, and sharing the gospel. I’m especially looking forward to interacting with children in these communities and using what I’m learning in Spanish to communicate with them and share the hope of Christ.
I would be grateful for your prayers. Please pray for safe travel, unity within our team, opportunities to serve well, and open hearts among the people we meet. Please also pray that I would grow in my faith, learn to serve others and develop a deeper understanding of my place in God's work around the world.
Our combined fundraising goal is $3,500 to make this trip possible. This amount will help cover our airfare, lodging, meals, and program expenses as my mom and I travel to Peru and serve alongside the missionary team.
