Hi, my name is Nansan, and this November I have an amazing opportunity to travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia to serve as a volunteer nurse on a week-long medical mission trip.
I will be joining a team through Phoenix International Foundation, a U.S. based nonprofit organization. The trip will combine medical care, education, and spiritual care as we serve rural communities with limited access to healthcare. During the trip, we will set up pop-up medical clinics to provide basic medical assessments, treatment, and health education. We will also partner with a local Christian private school to provide a week of Bible study alongside STEM and music activities. Throughout the week, we will also offer opportunities for patients and community members to receive prayer and learn more about what it means to have faith.
As a volunteer nurse, I get to provide free healthcare for villagers who may have limited access to basic medical services. I am especially excited to put my training and experience into practice by serving others. More than providing care, I also see this as an incredible opportunity to grow professionally, particularly in community medicine and healthcare in resource-limited settings.
Under the supervision of a medical doctor, our team will provide care for common conditions such as flu-like illnesses, minor injuries, type 2 diabetes, skin infections, and other routine medical concerns. We will also perform basic point-of-care testing, including blood glucose testing and urinalysis, and have access to portable ultrasound equipment when appropriate. Medications for minor illnesses will be sourced locally, and patients who need further evaluation or treatment will be referred to appropriate hospitals or charitable medical facilities in Siem Reap.
All healthcare professionals on the team will work within applicable Cambodian regulations and under appropriate medical supervision.
How You Can Help
I am hoping to raise $2,100 by October 20 to cover my visa, airfare, accommodations, food, and local transportation for the duration of the trip.
As a recent graduate and intern, with a BS in Nursing I am looking forward to this kind of medical mission trip. I cannot make this trip possible on my own, and any amount you are able to give would mean so much to me. Your support will help me get to Cambodia and allow me to serve people who may otherwise have limited access to basic medical care.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this opportunity and for considering supporting me. Whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or simply keeping our team in your prayers, I am deeply grateful for your support.
