Many of you know our dear friend Stephanie Brooks as the heart behind the Gnosh food truck. For years she has shown up for this community, supporting local nonprofits and giving back through her business every chance she could. Now she is going through one of the hardest seasons of her life, and it's our turn to show up for her.
Two years ago Stephanie survived a heart attack, and earlier this year she underwent a life altering shoulder surgery. Recovery has kept her from working. Through it all, she was the primary caregiver for her elderly mother, Mama Brooks, who passed away on September 30th.
Now, just weeks later, she has suffered the sudden loss of her older brother, Kenny Brooks. Kenny was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer only three months ago, and his passing came far sooner than anyone expected. Losing him so soon after losing Mama Brooks has been devastating, and she is still trying to process the weight of it all. On top of her grief, Stephanie is now responsible for taking care of Kenny's final expenses.
Mama Brooks and Kenny passed away less than a month apart, and a joint memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate both of their lives together. Details will be shared as soon as they are available.
Due to all the circumstances, Gnosh will not be reopening. This is heartbreaking news for our community, which has loved Gnosh and everything Stephanie poured into it. Stephanie is also facing bills, medical expenses, and the cost of having to move off her family's property.
Stephanie has always been the first to help others. Our hope is to give her room to breathe, grieve, and heal while she works toward a fresh start for her future.
