My name is Michael Ayers. I’m 38, a Type 1 diabetic, and I live in Michigan with my mom and take care of her.
She is 68, on a fixed income, and she has lived in the same apartment for 18 years. In all that time she was late on rent twice. On September 24 she was given a Notice to Quit. They want her out by October 31st.
That would be hard enough on its own. It is worse because she has a hiatal hernia and surgery scheduled for October 15. After the operation she will be bedridden for a week minimum and on a liquid diet. She cannot pack, lift, or look for housing while she heals.
We are not asking anyone to stop the eviction. We are asking for help getting into a new place before she has to leave and before she is laid up.
Any money raised will go toward:
- First month’s rent
- Security deposit
- Moving costs and basic setup
- Necessary appliances if the new place does not have them
Anything left after that stays on housing and recovery costs so she is not trying to heal on a floor or in a hotel.
Eighteen years in one home is a long time. Two late payments in eighteen years should not wipe that out with three weeks’ notice and a surgery in the middle of it. If you can give, share, or pray, it helps us get her somewhere stable before October 15.
Thank you for reading this.
