Aloha my family and friends, I need your kōkua. I have recently been forced to stop teaching due to sudden and serious health condition. My speech, balance, and movements have been seriously affected by a rare neurological condition called gluten ataxia, and I need to travel from Hawaii to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona. I am in need of urgent help there to see if they can figure out proper treatment for my condition. We do not have a specialist in Hawaiʻi who is familiar with my condition, and even the specialists here who focus on movement and balance conditions have a one-year wait to get on their calendar. My doctors feel that with recent events, I can not wait any longer, and have referred me to the mainland to get the help I need. Donations will help cover the costs of my airfare, a place to stay near the campus, medical tests, and basic household bills, since I can't work right now.
