Umoja Tournament: Kicking for Coexistence – Youth for Nature and Peace
Green Earth Warriors (GEW Kenya) is raising $8,000 to support the Umoja Tournament, a five-day youth football initiative bringing communities from Laikipia, Samburu (West Gate), and Oldonyiro together through sport, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
Across this landscape, young people face unemployment, exclusion, and tensions linked to land, water, livestock, and wildlife. These challenges can fuel both human-human and human-wildlife conflict. The Umoja Tournament turns football into a powerful platform for building trust, strengthening relationships, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The tournament brings together 60+ youth teams, with 195 games played over five days. Beyond the pitch, elders, peace facilitators, and conservation practitioners engage young people in dialogue on peace, unity, environmental stewardship, and coexistence. Music, storytelling, and cultural exchange make these messages accessible and meaningful.
Women also play an important role through catering, girls' football, and community engagement, creating opportunities for participation and economic empowerment.
Your contribution will help cover referees and match officials, security, team transport, and meals for players, coaches, and officials.
Help us turn every goal into a step toward peace, conservation, and a more united future.
