Derek L. King is a U.S. veteran, husband, student, small-business owner, and longtime resident of Tonopah, Arizona. For more than six years, Derek and his wife have built a life together on their homestead, where they care for their dogs, goats, chickens, and more than 50 rabbits.

Together, they run Fun King Homestead LLC, creating organic dog treats, homemade jams, and other goods made from their homestead. They regularly bring their products to local marketplaces and community events, sharing what they make with the people around them. They have worked hard to build a simple life that they are proud of.

For some time, Derek has been raising concerns about flight-training activity taking place near their home. The frequent low-flying aircraft and noise have significantly affected their property and the surrounding neighborhood. His concerns became even more serious when objects were thrown from an aircraft and shattered a window at their home, raising concerns about the safety of his family, animals, and property.

Derek tried to address these concerns through the appropriate channels. He contacted the flight school, local authorities, the FAA, and other agencies, hoping the situation could be resolved peacefully. Despite his efforts, the situation continued.

Derek and his family now find themselves facing a serious legal battle that they believe stems from his efforts to speak up about what was happening around their home.

This has placed an enormous emotional and financial burden on the family.

We are raising money to help Derek obtain the legal representation he needs and to cover attorney fees, court costs, and other necessary expenses related to his case. Legal battles can become incredibly expensive, and we don’t want the financial burden to stand in the way of Derek receiving a strong defense.

For a family that has spent years building their home, caring for their animals, working together, and becoming part of their community, this has been devastating.

Derek has worked hard to build a life he can be proud of. Now he needs people to stand beside him.
