My husband is representing himself in a civil lawsuit in Lake County, Florida, fighting our electric company. I am a witness, not a plaintiff. Please help me seek justice! All it would take is one penny because if I could reach 100,000 people, one penny each would raise $1,000. If I could reach one million people, that would be $10,000. I don't think this site will let you donate only a penny so the bare minimum would be a great gift.
There is something many people do not know about being pro se. My husband will need to interview himself on the stand! He has to ask himself a question and answer it. Anybody will look crazy asking themselves questions! We really need a lawyer.
If I told everything, it would be too long. Things are condensed. This has been going on for 8 horrible years!
If they believe they have the right to take our money without asking, use our property at any time and for any reason, regardless of damage they cause & not pay for it, then I fear they can continue to make what is left of our lives even more miserable.
If you know an attorney who might be willing to take this case, I would be incredibly grateful. If you are able to donate toward the cost of obtaining a lawyer, I would be grateful for that help as well. If my husband wins, it could help so many people going through similar situations.
Working full-time while representing himself in a complicated civil case has become overwhelming & we struggle every day both emotionally and financially to keep going.

In 2022-2023, my husband stopped getting bills. Unbeknownst to us, our electric company started charging an amount that was higher than the actual bill! This is important because it was not just my husband. Every customer was experiencing the same thing and they most likely made millions from this tactic since it started in 2023. Today, many people still do not know about it and it is still happening.
If they have 250,000 customers and they round up between 1 cent and 99 cents over 3 years, that averages (250,000×$0.50×36) = $4,500,000! How is this legal? Am I allowed to take $4,500,000 without asking? Of course not, I would be arrested so why isn’t SECO arrested? We need to join together to stop this before other businesses do the same thing.
These are other incidents/damages that happened to us:
- When our home was being built, they dug the electric too shallow... leading to a cut wire during smoothing. @$3,000.
- Running over our large John Deere tractor undercarriage. @$575.
- Using our property as a shortcut to another property with its own access. @$40,000.
- Causing repeated damage to property and landscaping. @$10,000.
- Terrifying us when they showed up at night for no good reason. @$5000 Medical & Emotional (M&E).
- Refusing to take responsibility, even with video evidence & a witness. M&E.
- Defamation (Retaliation AND Intimidation). M&E.
- Refusing to service an outage (Retaliation). M&E.
- Threats of electric disconnection (Intimidation). M&E.
- Charging all customers more than what the actual electric charges total. Millions $!
- Having to deal with a lawsuit without a lawyer! @ $2000 so far & M&E.
From 2019–2026, we repeatedly told their employees and contractors, both in writing and in person, that vehicles were not permitted on our driveway because of previous property & driveway damage. No one listened and they kept using it, so we put up a gate. We had 2 side entrances, one for trucks and another for foot traffic.
Then, in 2024, something happened that profoundly changed how safe we felt in our own home.
While it was dark outside, all I could see through a camera monitor in our living room were multiple large vehicles with blinding bright lights in the driveway.
I woke my husband because I was terrified, shaking, and tears were in burning in my eyes. I was the victim of violence several times over & had chosen to live in a rural area because I wanted to feel safe. I cannot tell you the terror I was feeling.
Who would have the gall to open our gate in the dark & drive up our 320-foot driveway without permission? At first, I thought it was criminals in monster trucks, then I was concerned that we might be the victims of a swatting prank (this was happening a lot in Florida that year). If it was criminals, we needed to defend ourselves, but if we were being swatted, then we needed to disarm and demonstrate that we were not a threat.
We were terrified that making the wrong decision could have gotten us killed.
We called 911, hoping they would arrive in time. The police told us that the vehicles were our electric company. We were relieved it was not criminals but we never thought it was the electric company because our electric was working fine!
We wondered why our electric company didn't contact us instead of terrifying us by arriving in the dark unannounced. Why didn't they come to our door?
When we went outside, two huge bucket utility trucks were leaving. My husband spoke with the workers & asked why they had entered our gated property. They said to get to the utility box on the lot next door! The workers said they had a right to use our driveway in order to access the property next door.
When daylight came, we discovered significant damage to our property, including damage and crushed areas of our driveway. The estimate for repairing the driveway alone was approximately $40,000.
We have other security cameras and we checked them to see what happened. It was extremely upsetting and you can see the video above.
When I contacted them, I was upset and still traumatized. I told them that I was the victim of two rapes and showing up like they did terrified me. I warned them not to do it again.
I thought they would call us and try to work something out to resolve the issues. They did call but it was the security department. He said that they perceived what I said as a threat and they will turn off the power unless I promise to give up my right to defend myself! Me? A victim of rapes, and other horrors, I could not defend myself? I told him that I was the victim of two rapes and what they did terrified me. I said that if someone is coming at me in the dark and does not identify himself, then I will defend myself!
He said then we are turning off the electricity. I started to cry and I told him about my past again.
When someone who is the sole source of your electricity starts threatening to turn off your power, believe me, you feel helpless. We do not have a choice of electric companies!
I was forced to agree not to defend myself if a stranger is coming at me in the dark and does not identify himself because it might be an electric company worker. I found this to be sadistic but I had no choice!
They terrified us, traumatized me, and then doubled down and threatened to turn off our power! This gets worse...
We Tried to Resolve This Without a Lawsuit
We tried submitting a claim to our electric company, but they denied responsibility. Then we submitted a property damage claim through a government agency. They denied responsibility again and made false statements about my husband and what happened. That is why defamation is part of the lawsuit. I felt they were trying to intimidate us again.
All of this has been too much. It has even contributed to my husband’s worsening health issues and mine. He has heart problems. His doctor increased his medication for his heart & then added another medication after he read those accusations!
These events reinforced our concerns.
In June 2026, during an actual power outage (lightning struck utility box next door), I saw the electric company's vehicles pause in front of our gate. I felt that they were waiting for me to unlock and open the gate.
Then they turned into the neighbor's property where the utility equipment is located and instead of going to the equipment on that property, they turned around and came back to our driveway and paused again! I would not unlock the gate. Then they drove on. They removed the outage status from their website map without fixing the outage!
Later, my husband reported the outage again and they finally used the neighbor's property to reach the box and fix it.
We went 3½ hours without electric in the horrible 90+ degree Florida heat because, I believe, they did not like that I would not unlock our gate.
Where Things Stand Now
We continue to have concerns about access to our property and the possibility of future damage.
Later, we found out something very important. Their employees gave conflicting accounts of what happened so when they made those false accusations, it was not factual from their perspective but they still made them.
This is too important and too complicated for my husband to feel comfortable continuing without an attorney. Having to learn an unfamiliar legal system quickly enough to meet deadlines has also been extremely stressful and traumatizing for both of us.
Why I Am Asking for Help
My husband worked hard his whole life to achieve his American dream of owning a beautiful home on a 5-acre property and I feel like it is being taken from us.
I fear that if my husband loses this lawsuit, we could be forced to sell our home to cover legal expenses and other costs.
We want to be able to live peacefully in our own home. I am asking for help obtaining an attorney who can help my husband protect our property & our rights and bring this matter through the legal process.
