In 2022 I realized just how far the man who once promised to love, honor, and cherish me had fallen from that promise. As he ran away, became even more financially abusive and medically cruel towards me, his wife.
For almost 30 years, my life was intertwined with deceit and manipulation—a painful dance fueled by the very person I believed would be my anchor. His betrayal wasn’t just about love lost; it was a battle for survival against someone who seemed determined to strip me of everything—including dignity.
I am disabled and live at poverty level, surviving on SSDI while he spends lavishly, buying new cars and paying his divorce lawyers' hefty bills, and enjoying outside meals/travel. He has not helped me financially in the last 3+ years since he left. It's not just the financial toll, but isolation from loved ones and the emotional exhaustion from fighting back in a legal system I barely understand whilst reliving horrific traumatic memories. Mistakes are common with my disabilities; they are part of who I am now—a fierce fighter against an abusive past, struggling with every step towards justice and freedom. A fighter who needs help.
But this isn’t just about me. It's about standing up for all those silently enduring abuse in the guise of love or convenience. This fight is bigger than any one person; it’s a battle for truth, dignity, and safety—not only for myself but also for my chosen family who has witnessed their share of heartache. If a partner says, "you will have no one but them", it's not love but manipulation. I promise you they are wrong.
The money raised will be used to pay for legal help in divorcing this abusive partner. I have tried reaching out to legal agencies who serve low income people. However, my abuser had used the strategy (recommended by the “manosphere”) of calling all such agencies in my area before serving me the divorce papers, so that when I called for legal help, I was turned away to avoid “conflicts of interest" and filing in a county I cannot get services. I am reaching out to you because I believe in the power of human kindness and solidarity. Every dollar raised will be used wisely, directly impacting our fight against an adversary far better equipped than me. It’s not about numbers; it's about standing up for what is right—defending someone who society might deem "unlikely" but whose strength cannot be underestimated.
