Scott Ingram and his family (Alecia Ingram and their three young children) have been working with and supporting ministry for the last 10 years. Seven of those years were spent at the Gospel Broadcasting Network where he co-hosts a show called the Authentic Christian Podcast helping people learn about God, the Bible, Jesus, and how to become and live as Christians in daily life.
For the last 6 years, Scott’s health has been slowly declining. He has seen many doctors with different specialties seeking help and answers. (You can read more about his specific conditions at the bottom of this post.) He has several chronic health conditions, the worst including chronic kidney stone production, regular infections along his urinary tract from kidneys to bladder, and a degenerative spinal disorder that is keeping him in the bed more than not these days, alongside other painful symptoms.
Earlier this year, Scott lost his remote position which had allowed him a great deal of flexibility with hours and work days, leaving him without work. Because of Scott’s health, he wasn’t able to afford to keep their home, which they had to sell before moving to live with family. The family that let them come stay with them are supportive and helping in all the ways they can, but they can’t cover all of their bills, especially things like life insurance, phones, car expenses, and daily requirements like hygiene products and fuel for the vehicle.
After speaking with doctors, family, church friends, and months of trying to find another way, Scott applied for disability insurance; his family has been living off the money they got for selling their home. They are now running very low on funds and are still fighting to get his disability insurance approved from the state of Alabama. They have some assistance with food and have been put on Medicaid, but without the approval from the SSA for his disability claim, they will eventually run out of funds. Once they (hopefully) finally receive those funds, there still may be a financial shortfall, especially when it comes to handling emergency expenses.
Scott’s wife, Alecia, takes care of him and their children throughout the day, which means she is unable to work. Unfortunately, it would be impossible for Scott to keep up with what she is already doing for the family while she goes to work at this time in their life. Although Alecia is looking for odd jobs she can do here and there, and has already been doing that to help as much as she can, it’s still not enough.
They could use your help, if you are able, to buy themselves more time while the disability insurance claim is dealt with, and to build up a bit of a financial safety net. With Scott’s health getting worse as time moves forward, he has expressed to me that keeping his life insurance policy active for himself is one of the most important things he is worried about for his family; I hope that communicates how serious the situation is for Scott and his family.
They have very low monthly expenses compared to many right now: they owe no mortgage and have no car payment. From what I’ve seen, they are very frugal people, are willing to tighten their belt wherever possible, and have been good stewards with what God has blessed them with. They need money to pay for the few bills that are left, like life insurance and phones, as well as to cover costs for the children’s needs and fuel to get them to appointments, the store, church, and the normal issues of life until disability is approved.
Scott has helped so many people over his time working within a formal ministry setting, as well as outside of those formal roles. If you have ever watched him on the Authentic Christian Podcast, you will know that he is a God-fearing, honest, and caring Christian who consistently tries to further God’s Kingdom and win souls to Christ. This is a perfect opportunity for his brothers and sisters in Christ to do whatever we can to help Scott and his family.
Scott was very uncomfortable asking for help, as he didn’t want to be seen as someone looking for a handout. Even now, he constantly reminds me and others that there are other people who are worse off than him. Thankfully, Scott has been honest about his needs, and this has created an opening for the rest of us to show him and his family love and support.
I am reminded of the early church and its approach to helping each other, specifically in Acts 2:44-45, “And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.”
Please prayerfully consider supporting the Ingram family with any amount that you can. And please also remember Scott and his family in your prayers and ask God to show Scott extra compassion, mercy, healing, and strength.
