Help Us Bring Jewel Home 🤍🐴

Many of you have heard me talk about Jewel for years. Now I’m asking for help bringing her home.

Jewel is only 10 years old, but she has spent nearly half her life confined to a stall without the opportunity for exercise or turnout. Her owner dropped her off over 4 years ago and never returned, but continues to pay her board. She had already been there for a year when we began boarding our horses there. My kids and I had an immediate connection with Jewel. We began doing all that we could do for her within the perimeters of her stall as we were not allowed to take her out without owner permission.

We have spent countless hours visiting, grooming, caring for, and loving on a horse that isn’t ours. We have grown so attached to this horse and have only been able to dream about one day making her part of our family and giving her the space and opportunity to live like a horse again.

As soon as we had a closing date on our 3 acres that we purchased in August, I immediately reached out to Jewel’s owner. After months with no response, we’ve finally been given the opportunity to purchase her! However, her asking price is much higher than I expected for a horse in her condition. Her feet desperately need attention, she will most likely need corrective shoes to hopefully correct the direction her bones have grown from repetitive movements in the small space, her health needs to be evaluated, and she will likely require careful rehabilitation before safely returning to regular activity. Adding in the immediate costs of veterinary care, farrier work, bodywork, and rehabilitation. We need your help to assure Jewel a safe and healthy future!

We have until 10/31 to come up with the purchase price of $3,500. I have never done this before; I’m the worst at asking for help, especially financial help. But here I am, asking for your help. We are trying to raise funds to help with her purchase and immediate care too if possible. We want to bring her home responsibly and ensure we can provide everything she needs.

We’re also afraid of what could happen if Jewel is sold to someone who doesn’t know her history or understand how long she has been confined. A stranger to her may not realize how much patience, evaluation, and careful rehabilitation she needs, or understand the ways her years without turnout may have affected her physically and emotionally. We want to make sure she goes to someone who knows her, understands what she has been through, and is committed to giving her the time and care she deserves, forever. She already knows our family and our gelding, Mack, so she would be coming home to familiar faces and people who have already loved her for years.

If you feel led to contribute, even a small donation would mean so much. If donating isn’t possible, your encouragement and prayers are equally appreciated.

Every dollar raised will go toward Jewel’s purchase and veterinary, hoof-care, and rehabilitation needs.

Thank you for supporting our family and helping us give this sweet girl a chance at a better future.

With love and gratitude, 🤍🐴
