For 20 years, Paul Trouette, founder of Lear Asset Management has dedicated his life
to protecting communities across Idaho and the western United States. He is a
conservationist, a public safety educator, a husband of 36 years, a dad, and a
grandfather.
His work has helped families, Schools, Churches, corporate, high-net worth clients, and
rural communities stay safe in moments when quick action mattered most. Paul has
instructed and protected America's communities for two decades. Dedicating his public
safety efforts to cities and rural America.
Today, Paul faces significant legal financial challenges in defending his case. Paul was
convicted of two counts of battery ironically assisting the County Sheriff by removing
disruptive political agitators who were not exercising protected free speech but
disturbing the peace at a privately rented facility where elected officials gathered, and a
credible bomb threat was directed at one of the legislators.
WHAT ACTULALLY HAPPENED?
Paul’s team, experienced in protecting high-profile clients, was briefed by the elected
Sheriff of Kootenai County, of a credible bomb threat against one of the legislators, and
requested the aid of Paul’s Team. Lear asset Management volunteered and donated
their services to help protect the attendees during the event. At the beginning of the
event, attendees were given clear instructions on meeting decorum. They were told that
any interruptions, outbursts, or disturbances of any kind would not be tolerated, and
would be grounds for removal. One individual and others together decided to challenge
the decorum or rules and disrupt the event.
When their heckling began, they were asked to refrain from disturbing the meeting
decorum, until the legislators were finished explaining their comments. One individual
when her outbursts began, was warned to remain composed until the appropriate
comment period was opened, they decided to continue to disrupt the meeting,
disregarding the decorum, and yell and shout willful and malicious disparaging remarks
towards the speakers. When she and others were warned and asked to leave by the
Sheriff, they refused. When the Sheriff trespassed her and attempted to remove her
physically, she resisted his order.
The sheriff then summoned the assistance of Lear Asset Management security
personnel to remove the female while he videotaped the removal. Protesters were
shouting obscenities near children and elderly, all the while resisting her removal at the
order of the Sheriff. See ID Codes 19-205, ID 31-2202 (1), (3), (5). ID 18-6409.
Disturbing the peace is “NOT” protected under the first amendment. She refused a
direct order from the Sheriff, and the Security personnel. While attempting to remove
the female Lear Security personnel were bitten, kicked, and punched. She was charged
with battery, but it was dismissed by city of Coeur D Alene attorney.
Paul’s company did his job professionally, calmly, and under the direction of Law
Enforcement.
SO WHY WAS PAUL ONLY TRIED? AND THE REST OF HIS MEN'S CASES
DISSMISSED?
Paul’s men’s charges, after much time, negative bias press, and $29,000.00 in legal
fees, were all dismissed by the City Prosecutor. Ultimately Paul was the only one TRIED
FOR ANY OF THE CONDUCT THAT OCCURRED AT THE EVENT, and convicted of
two counts of battery, and 2 counts of city ordinance violations for aiding the Sheriff
removing criminal threats and preserving the peace. 23 other counts were dismissed.
The city requires patches identifying SECURITY; however this was an executive
protection event, and Lear was in a covert uniform widely recognized in the executive
security industry by high profile protective teams. Is this poorly constructed ordinance
being applied to visiting celebrities’ security teams? This rule is being violated as we
speak all over the City of Coeur D Alene, and many other cities across America, but not
to political protection teams like Charlie Kirk, or many others who demand security
anonymity in a city that hosts movie stars, sports figures, legislators, dignitaries.
Professional security must be allowed to remain discreet in operations that require it as
to not compromise public safety. The event moderator announced Paul’s presence at
the beginning of the event, there was no mistake in why they were there.
WHY THIS MATTERS TO ALL OF US?
This case is about more than one man. It’s about you!
Whether the rule of State Law will be superseded by poorly adopted city
ordinances.
Whether private citizens and security personnel will be punished for assisting
law enforcement in doing their jobs.
Whether the public and private businesses can trust that security has immunity
for doing the right thing, especially assisting Law Enforcement without fear of
criminal, and civil damages.
Whether you should stop and intervene in a threatening event to save a life or
protect the public acting lawfully under state codes, without the fear of lawsuits,
or criminal charges.
How will anyone feel confident helping anyone after this national case sets a
dangerous precedent that if you act lawfully, you may lose your whole life.
What THIS CASE HAS COST PAUL SO FAR?
His operating license in the city of Coeur D Alene

$ 29,000.00 in initial legal fees.
