If you’ve been following along with our adoption story, you’re probably a little confused. And to be honest, I am too.

We jumped full force into adoption last September when we connected with a woman who wanted to place her baby, and was due in mid-October. Then, in a very sudden turn of events, she seemed to completely vanish. To this day, we don’t know if she ever truly intended to place her baby or if she was only motivated by financial gain. That’s something we may never know. I choose to hope that she ultimately felt capable of parenting her child and made the decision that was best for her and her baby.

In the midst of that devastation, around Thanksgiving, we were presented with another situation involving a baby due at the beginning of the year. Long story short, after traveling to the birth mom’s state, I was in the C-section room. I held the baby. But due to circumstances I won’t share publicly, we were unable to bring her home. Out of respect for the birth mom and the baby’s privacy, I won’t go into details here. That day went from being one of the most exciting days of my life to, very quickly, one of the top worst days I have ever experienced.

So now we are here. Back to waiting. And unfortunately, about $30,000 in the hole. Like it would to most families, that kind of financial loss weighs incredibly heavy on us. I don’t understand why God allowed us to walk through situations that led to such heartbreak and financial stress. But not everything is for us to understand.

What we do know is that we still feel strongly that adoption is what we are meant to do.

So with this update, we are again asking for your prayers. We believe in prayer with our whole hearts. It’s part of the foundation of our life and our family.

Please pray that Joseph and I grow even stronger in our marriage through this, even when the enemy will try to create doubt or division.

Please pray for the baby we will eventually welcome into our home—that he or she will be healthy and protected.

And please pray that we will be able to recover from some of the financial loss we’ve experienced.

We are so incredibly grateful for every person who has prayed for us, donated, checked in, or simply cared. It means more than we can ever express.

We’re hopeful that in the near future, we’ll be able to share a truly joyful update.
