Our sweet baby boy Enzo entered this world fighting for his life. Shortly after birth, he was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) — a type of brain injury caused by lack of oxygen. This diagnosis has led to cerebral palsy and global developmental delays.

Enzo spent the first two months of his life in the NICU, getting stronger each day. Slowly, he was able to be extubated and learned to breathe on his own. He was discharged in May with a feeding tube and a schedule filled with therapies and medical appointments every day.

Despite this tough start, he has shown us nothing but bravery, strength, and a fierce will to overcome every obstacle placed in front of him.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Early intervention is critical for children with HIE. For our son, therapy is not optional — it's his chance to learn to move, speak, interact, and thrive.

He currently requires:

• Physical Therapy
• Occupational Therapy
• Speech Therapy

But insurance has capped and denied these services, leaving our family with no other option than to cover the costs out-of-pocket. These therapies are costly, but they are essential — every session makes a measurable difference in his progress.

Accepted Into a Life-Changing Stem Cell Trial

Recently, Enzo was accepted into a Duke University stem cell clinical trial designed specifically for children like him. This opportunity could offer him a chance at improved neurological outcomes and better long-term function.

We are grateful, hopeful, and ready to give him every opportunity available — but the financial burden is immense.

Even as a research participant, we must cover:

• Travel and lodging to Duke
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Specialized evaluations
• Post-treatment follow-ups
• Additional intensive therapy following the trial
