Stripped of My Career and Reputation: Help Former Detective Walter Johnson Fight Back
For over 17 years, I dedicated my life, my safety, and my honor to protecting the public. As an African American police detective with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA PD), I earned 14 consecutive years of “exceeds expectations” evaluations, multiple Chief’s Awards, and commendations from the DEA and a U.S. Senator for taking dangerous traffickers and fentanyl off our streets. I was a decorated officer who put everything on the line for my community.
In late 2025, that entire lifetime of service was systematically torn away from me in a targeted campaign of intimidation and racial discrimination.
Without warning, I was summoned to headquarters, stripped of my duty weapon, my devices, and my dignity. I was subjected to hours of interrogation under baseless allegations of extortion and bribery—claims with zero evidence behind them. To force my compliance, an investigator presented what was claimed to be a signed search warrant to access my private passcodes—a warrant that didn't even legally exist and wasn't signed by a magistrate until nearly a week later. It was later found that a criminally charged person made untrue statements that myself along with 7 other officers were part of an extortion and bribery ring.
The intimidation peaked in a closed-door meeting with the department's top leadership. Facing outright hostility, I was given an impossible ultimatum: sign a resignation on the spot, or face immediate firing and the total destruction of my pension and 401(k). Isolated from my legal counsel and terrified of leaving my family completely destitute, I was coerced under severe duress into penning a forced resignation.
When my attorney immediately sent a formal letter rescinding that coerced resignation, leadership refused to acknowledge it. They reported to state authorities that I had "voluntarily resigned," blocking my union grievance rights and actively stripping me of my state law enforcement certification.
The reality behind this purge is devastating: every single one of the eight officers targeted and forced out in this investigation was a person of color. Meanwhile, white officers guilty of egregious misconduct—including operating official police cruisers while intoxicated—were protected, retained, and allowed to keep their livelihoods.
The consequences have devastated my life. I lost my career, my livelihood, my salary and benefits, and the profession I poured my soul into for a decade and a half. My name, built on years of integrity, has been dragged through the mud, leaving me and my family carrying an overwhelming emotional, mental, and financial burden.
I am fighting back against this unlawful discrimination, constructive termination, and character assassination, but legal battles against a powerful authority require immense resources. I have already paid over $30,000 in legal fees to initiate the Federal Lawsuit. No one was ever charged or found guilty of any wrongdoing. The statute of limitations has expired for this investigation and MWAA refuses to express an apology, or return me to duty.
