Alison has now been in Abbott Northwestern Hospital in the Neuro ICU for 7 weeks and she still faces another surgery & an unknown amount of recovery time in the hospital. Alison has hydrocephalus due to a premature birth. She has dealt with issues off and on throughout her life with this condition. She had an infection in her spinal fluid which required removal and externalization of her shunt while the infection cleared. This has also led to multiple surgeries to simplify the number of catheters required to make the shunt function properly. Once she goes home the doctors have said she will need months of physical therapy to recover, and regain her energy and strength. Joel will be starting family medical leave on September 7th for 12 weeks to be able to care for Alison. Since the medical leave will only cover about half of his salary we are starting this fundraiser to help ease the financial burden in their very difficult situation.
