In July, just a few days before his 36th birthday, my son Jordan was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It was certainly not the news our family expected, and the past several months have been filled with doctor's appointments, tests, procedures, and a lot of uncertainty.
For those who know Jordan, you know he has always been someone who stays busy and enjoys being involved in his community. He has spent nearly 15 years in law enforcement and public service and has always taken pride in helping others. More importantly, he's a proud father to his daughter, Ryan, and a devoted husband to Brittany, whom he married this past May.
After several months of testing and consultations, Jordan is now receiving care at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. We are thankful that his doctors have developed a treatment plan and are optimistic about his outlook.
Beginning October 19, Jordan will undergo approximately five and a half weeks of chemoradiation treatments. Once his treatments are completed, he will undergo additional imaging to evaluate his progress before beginning chemotherapy. His doctors have recommended this approach to give him the best possible chance of successfully beating cancer.
While we are hopeful and confident in the care Jordan is receiving, the next several months will bring some challenges for him, Brittany, and Ryan.
Because his treatments are being performed in Jacksonville, they will need to spend several weeks away from home. Between lodging, travel expenses, meals, medical costs, and time away from work, the financial burden can become significant. As many families who have experienced cancer firsthand know, there are also unexpected expenses that come along the way.
Jordan has always been fairly independent and isn't someone who enjoys asking for help. That's one of the reasons I decided to put this fundraiser together. As his mother, I want to do whatever I can to make this process a little easier for him, Brittany, and Ryan.
Our goal is simply to help offset some of these expenses so they can focus on his treatment, recovery, and spending time together as a family without the added worry of how they're going to manage everything financially.

Throughout this journey, Jordan has remained positive and continues to lean on his faith. We are grateful for the medical team caring for him and hopeful that the coming months will bring good news.

Jordan has spent much of his life answering the call when others needed help. Now, I'm simply asking those who can to help us answer the call for him.
