Help Shepherd Continue His Fight and Recovery
Our sweet Shepherd has already endured more in his little life than any child ever should. What began as a runny nose after dental surgery, turned into a terrifying fight for his life, a nearly month-long hospitalization, two surgeries, and a long road to recovery that is far from over.
Shepherd developed MRSA periorbital cellulitis affecting both eyes, along with a dangerous MRSA bloodstream infection, and Osteomyelitis. MRSA is a serious bacterial infection, and in Shepherd’s case, it became a medical emergency that required intensive treatment and close monitoring. His infection caused severe inflammation and complications involving the tissues around his eyes and sinuses. His doctors were faced with inflammation markers so extraordinarily high that we were told they were the highest they had ever seen.
As his parents, watching our little boy go through this was terrifying. We had to put our trust in his medical team as they worked to control the infection and get him through each day. After everything he has already survived, Shepherd is finally home with his family. But coming home does not mean his fight is over.
He is still battling osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection, and continues to receive IV antibiotics through a PICC line at home. His recovery requires ongoing treatment and careful monitoring to make sure the infection continues to resolve and that he is healing safely.
In the weeks and months ahead, Shepherd faces numerous follow-up appointments with his specialists, repeated bloodwork to monitor inflammation and infection, additional imaging to evaluate his healing, and continued medication and IV antibiotic treatment. These appointments and tests are essential to making sure this devastating infection does not return and that he can continue moving toward recovery.
We are asking for help because we cannot predict every expense that lies ahead, and we do not want financial hardship to become another obstacle in Shepherd’s recovery. Donations will help us cover medical expenses related to his ongoing treatment, IV antibiotic care and supplies, prescriptions, specialist visits, laboratory work, imaging, loss of work and other necessary costs as he continues healing.
Shepherd has already fought so hard. Now, as he continues his recovery at home, we want to focus on what matters most: helping him heal.
If you are able to donate, please know that every contribution, no matter the amount, means so much to our family. If you cannot donate, sharing Shepherd’s story can make an enormous difference. Your kindness, prayers, and support mean more than we can put into words.
Thank you for standing beside Shepherd as he continues this fight. Thank you for helping us give him the best chance at a safe, healthy recovery.
His fight is not over, but neither are we. ❤️
