ENGLISH | YESENIA'S STORY
My name is Derek Antelo. I am organizing this fundraiser to help Yesenia Berris and her family seek the urgent care she needs.
On October 26, 2026, Yesenia was home with her youngest daughter when she began bleeding heavily without warning or exertion. She lost consciousness from the hemorrhage. Her husband and parents rushed her to a public hospital in Maracaibo. Her baby's heartbeat was still present, but the doctors found a serious problem.
An ultrasound showed complete placenta previa, meaning the placenta covers the opening of her cervix. Further specialized imaging identified placenta accreta spectrum, with suspected involvement of her bladder. The placenta may have grown abnormally deeply into or through her uterus. These conditions create a high risk of severe bleeding during delivery. According to Yesenia, her doctors estimate a 90% likelihood that she will need a hysterectomy, the removal of her uterus. They cannot determine the full extent of the damage until surgery.
A RACE AGAINST TIME
Yesenia is hospitalized at Hospital Chiquinquirá under strict bed rest. As of October 29, her bleeding had decreased but had not stopped. Doctors hope to give her premature baby more time to develop and plan to repeat specialized imaging in about three weeks, if her condition permits.
As Yesenia explained, a clot is believed to be helping limit her bleeding. If another major hemorrhage occurs, emergency delivery and surgery could become necessary immediately. Her baby is still very premature, and both lives are at risk.
WHY THEY NEED HELP
Before this emergency, Yesenia and her husband each earned about $10 per day. Together they managed to provide food and basic necessities for their children, ages 14 and almost 5.
They could not afford private health insurance. Now Yesenia cannot work, and her husband's daily earnings are nowhere near enough for this unexpected, high risk pregnancy emergency.
As Yesenia has explained to us, Venezuela's public hospitals have limited resources. Patients often have to pay for ultrasounds and other tests at private centers, even while receiving care at a public hospital. Yesenia has already needed such tests.
Her doctors recommend treatment at a center experienced in placenta accreta, because this is not a routine cesarean delivery. She may need obstetric surgeons, urologists and other specialists, a blood bank, intensive care and specialized care for her premature baby.
Arranging this level of care is difficult and financially beyond her family's reach.
TWO CHILDREN WAITING AT HOME
One of the hardest things Yesenia has shared is that her children and family are waiting for her at home. She is trying to stay strong for them while facing the possibility of emergency surgery at any moment.
She wants the chance to return home to her children and see her baby receive the care he needs.
HOW THE $15,000 WILL HELP
Donations will help the family pursue specialized evaluations, ultrasounds, hospitalization, surgery, medical specialists, blood products, medications, possible intensive and neonatal care, and necessary transportation. Actual costs will depend on her treatment.
I, Derek Antelo, will receive and manage the GoFundMe funds and distribute them to support Yesenia's medical needs in Venezuela. We intend to share updates about her care and the use of donations as information becomes available.
Please give whatever you can and share this fundraiser with family, friends, churches and your community.
Above all, please pray for Yesenia, her baby, her husband and their children. As Yesenia has shared, she is doing everything she can to seek care while trusting God with the outcome.
Thank you for helping this family through an urgent and frightening time.
