Help My Dad Through His Second Battle With Cancer ❤️
My dad, Jim Steppe, is fighting cancer for the second time, and we’re asking for help getting him through the next six months of treatment.
Nearly 20 years ago, my dad was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. After many years in remission, the cancer has returned. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy, with treatment expected to continue for at least six months.
The biggest challenge isn’t just the treatment itself—it’s everything that comes with getting to and through treatment.
His cancer care requires him to travel approximately 2.5 hours each way. Because of the distance, he has to stay in the area for several days during treatment rather than being able to return home the same day.
That means repeated expenses for:
🚗 Gas and transportation — 2.5 hours each way for treatment trips
🍽️ Food — meals while he is away from home for several days
🏥 Medical expenses — prescriptions, supplies, copays, and other treatment-related costs
🏠 Everyday expenses — helping keep up with necessities while he is going through months of treatment
❤️ Unexpected expenses — the additional costs that inevitably come with a long course of cancer treatment
Our goal is $10,000
We chose this goal because we want to help ease the financial burden of six or more months of treatment, particularly the repeated travel and time away from home.
For perspective, $25 can help with a meal, $50 can help with gas, and $100 can help cover a combination of travel and food expenses. Every contribution adds up and helps us get him through another treatment.
My dad has lived with a disability and a limited income since I was in middle school. Despite having his own challenges, he has always found ways to give back. He volunteers with the Lions Club and various other organizations in his community, giving his time and helping others whenever he can.
He has spent years helping the people around him. Now we’re hoping we can do the same for him.
