Help My Brother Kyle Fischer Fight Glioblastoma

My brother, Kyle Fischer, is 45 years old and has been fighting for his life for the past three and a half years.

In 2023, Kyle was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a grade 4 astrocytoma, one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of brain cancer. Since then, I have watched him endure three brain surgeries, eight grand mal seizures, two life flights, and a broken jaw. After every recurrence, every seizure, and every scan that brought my brother more bad news, I expected to see my brother break. Instead, I watched him lean more on God.

Now the cancer has progressed, and Kyle is preparing for a third brain surgery. Because of the tumor's location, he must stay awake while surgeons operate to protect the parts of his brain that control critical functions. Most people can’t imagine lying awake while surgeons work on their brain. But those of us who know Kyle know not only can he do it, but he's excited for it! He has faced every hard thing with a strength and peace that comes from his faith, and he will face this the exact same way.

The hardest truth about glioblastoma is that traditional treatments are rarely enough. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can slow this cancer but almost never stop it, and it nearly always comes back. That is why Kyle is not giving up and is seeking alternative treatment. His team of doctors will preserve a piece of his tumor and use its unique biology in a cutting-edge, personalized treatment designed to reprogram his immune system to attack his cancer. This treatment is not yet FDA approved, and insurance will not pay for it. For Kyle, hope comes at a significant cost.

Who my brother is

Kyle is a veteran, missionary, and newlywed with unshakable faith. The day after September 11, 2001, Kyle joined the United States Air Force and later served overseas in Qatar. When he came home, he never stopped serving. He became a Christian missionary through YWAM, worked with Habitat for Humanity in South Korea, and has devoted his life to helping others find sobriety, faith, and a better path forward.

Kyle's faith is not something he sets aside after Sunday. It is how he lives. He has walked beside people at their lowest and reminded them they are not beyond hope.

Now he is the one walking through the valley, and he still believes God will carry him and his new bride, Katie, through it. Kyle has spent his life helping others get back on their feet. Now it is our turn to help him stay on his.

Why I'm asking

Kyle and Katie would never ask for themselves. They trust God to provide, and they have spent their lives giving to others. But I believe God works through people; that's why I’m asking you to help carry them through this.

Please give whatever you can. No amount is too small. Every donation will help cover the costs of his surgery, his treatment, and the uncertain road ahead. If you can't give, please share his story, and most of all, if you pray, please pray for Kyle and Katie.

Kyle has spent his life serving his faith, his country, and people who needed someone to believe in them. Today, he needs us to believe in him.

Help us give these newlyweds the one thing they need most right now: hope.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Magen, Kyle's sister
