Help Marsha: 74, Sick & Still Feeding the Homeless

A Prayer and Support Request for Marsha.

Marsha, my beloved elder sister and mother figure to me, is 74 years old and has been battling a serious illness for the past month. She is suffering from severe weakness, chest congestion, and a painful throat with swollen lymph nodes in her neck and ears. After two rounds of antibiotics, her system is now compromised and she has difficulty keeping food down.

Despite her condition, Marsha continues to care for her 4-year-old great-grandson while her granddaughter works. She lives alone in a small, uninsulated home in northern Georgia, on just $100 a month in Social Security.

A Life of Selfless Service

Marsha has long been a woman of quiet, relentless generosity. She kept crock pots of warm food going for the unhoused neighbors who live in barns and tents at the edge of her property, letting them come and go freely. She would load her van full from food banks and distribute it among them. She posted Scripture throughout her home, left the Word of God playing all day, and made her phone available 24/7 for anyone in crisis. She brought people to church, worked with the children, and has been instrumental in supporting her congregation with service and prayer. She also worked as a seamstress, creating quality slipcovers that looked like custom upholstery.

Even now, in her illness, her heart remains fixed on others.

What She Faces Now

•She can no longer cook, clean, or drive (until better)

•Her home has holes in the walls, and rats have access to her food and living space

•The uninsulated house exposes her and the child to extreme heat and cold; power bills have reached $900 in winter and summer

•Her old church van — a donated blessing — has repeatedly broken down on the back roads, leaving her stranded an hour from church

•She is not tech-literate enough to navigate digital resources on her own

•The church she has served has not stepped in to help

What Is Needed

•Prayer for her healing — or, if God's will is otherwise, for her peace

•Financial support for food, medical needs, home repairs, and utilities

•Help with reliable transportation

•Assistance with home safety (sealing gaps, pest control, insulation)

Marsha is a hero to me — always encouraging, never complaining, always seeing the silver lining. She gives endlessly and asks for nothing. I am unable to be with her in person due to my own disability, and she is unwilling to leave her grandchild to come stay with me in Florida.

She is, in every way I know how to say it, one of God's best angels. Thank you for considering being a blessing to her. ❤️

UPDATE 10-10-26: I learned Marsha's hot water heater has been leaking on the floor in her kitchen since the 8th. She has it in a drip pan but the floor and wall beside it are now saturated and she can't get this fixed right away as it takes time for fundraising money to become available. She says she doesn't know where it's leaking from. This sounds dangerous to me. God sees🙏
