On October 19, 18-year-old Lachlan Shaffer’s life changed in an instant.
Lachlan was involved in a devastating car accident when his vehicle struck a tree at high speed. The impact was so severe that the engine was pushed into the passenger compartment, leaving him trapped in the wreckage. Rescue crews worked tirelessly for nearly two hours to free him.
The fact that Lachlan survived is truly a miracle.
Unfortunately, his journey is far from over.
Lachlan suffered extensive injuries, including multiple broken bones and fractures involving his arms, legs, ribs, and pelvis. He has already endured hours of surgery, with additional procedures and a long, difficult recovery still ahead.
At just 18 years old, Lachlan is facing challenges that most of us can hardly imagine. Once active, independent, and accustomed to working physically demanding jobs, he now faces an extended period of being confined to bed while his body heals.
So much of his everyday life has suddenly been put on hold.
But one thing this accident hasn’t taken away is his love for photography.
Photography is something Lachlan genuinely enjoys. Shortly before the accident, he had shared his wish for a professional-quality camera. Sadly, the camera he already owned was among the personal belongings lost in the wreck.
As Lachlan begins the long road to recovery, we want to come together and give him something special. Something that will bring him happiness, encourage his creativity, and give him something positive to look forward to during the difficult months ahead.
Our goal is to surprise Lachlan with a beautiful, professional-quality camera, a lens, and the equipment he needs to continue pursuing his passion for photography.
While his injuries will prevent him from doing many of the things he loves for quite some time, photography is something he may be able to enjoy again as he gradually heals and regains his strength.
For Lachlan, this camera would be so much more than a gift.
It would be something to look forward to on the hard days. A creative outlet during his recovery. A reminder that although life may look very different right now, there are still beautiful experiences waiting for him.
We know a camera cannot erase what Lachlan has endured or make the challenges ahead disappear. But sometimes, even the smallest moments of happiness can make an enormous difference when someone is going through something so difficult.
This fundraiser is simply about bringing some joy, encouragement, and hope into the life of a young man who has already been through so much.
We are asking friends, family, and our community to help us make this surprise possible. Donations will go toward purchasing a quality camera, lens, and photography equipment for Lachlan.
