Here’s an update for everyone. We are now basically homeless and living in hotels with points and money that people have given us. Ginger‘s knee area is infected and she will have to have surgery on that on Monday. We need more help. We could use gift cards for Walmart or gift cards for any restaurant. Points for Hilton or Marriott or points for any chain for that matter. If you can, we appreciate everything that you can give.
Hi, I'm Markis. In July, my family and I moved from Georgia to Pearland, Texas for my job — a fresh start we were excited about. Then everything went sideways.
In September, my wife Ginger broke her femur and ankle and spent 15 days in the hospital. She's home now but can't put any weight on her leg for weeks, so she needs full-time care.
With one income stretched across medical bills and a move that cost more than we planned, we fell behind on rent. We now owe about $10,000 and we had an eviction court on October 12. They did judge against us and we have until Monday to come up with the money.
We're a Christian family doing our best. I've applied to every assistance program I can find, and I'm working while caring for Ginger, our two adopted children (ages 12 and 10), and my 74 year old mother-in-law, who lives with us. We're asking for help to catch up on rent and keep our home.
