Life can change in an instant, and for the Barker family, the past few weeks have brought challenges no young family should have to face.
Jacob Barker is a hardworking Christian, a loving husband to his wife, Harlie, and a devoted father to their two young kids, with a baby girl expected in November. What should be a season of excitement and preparation for welcoming their newest blessing has instead become a season of uncertainty, hospital stays, and difficult decisions.
Just recently, Jacob unexpectedly lost his job, leaving his family without their only source of income. Before they could even begin to navigate that financial hardship, Jacob's health took a frightening turn.
After experiencing some concerning symptoms, Jacob was hospitalized and underwent extensive testing, including CT scans and a bone marrow biopsy. His doctors discovered serious abnormalities in his test results and ultimatley diagnosed him with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a form of blood cancer as well as a Myeloid Sarcoma. They transferred him to Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, where he is receiving specialized care through West Cancer Center.
In a matter of days, Jacob and Harlie went from preparing for the arrival of their third child to facing a potentially life-threatening illness, the loss of their income, and an uncertain road ahead.
As Jacob continues undergoing medical evaluation and treatment, Harlie is carrying an enormous responsibility: caring for their two children, preparing to welcome their daughter, supporting her husband, and trying to maintain some sense of normalcy for their family.
That's where we can step in.
We are raising funds to help ease the Barker family's financial burden so Jacob can focus on his health and Harlie can focus on her husband and children.
