My name is Greg Leeper. In May 2025, I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Since then, I have undergone brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. I am now scheduled for another brain surgery on November 5, 2026.
I am asking for help with medical-related expenses, transportation, recovery needs, and making my home safe and wheelchair-accessible so I can eventually return to it.
Working toward independence
My illness has left me with significant limitations on the left side of my body. Things I once took for granted, like walking across a room or getting in and out of the house, now require planning and assistance.
I am currently staying with family in Illinois while receiving treatment. I am grateful for their help, but one of my greatest hopes is to return safely to my manufactured home in Missouri and regain more independence.
Before that can happen, the home needs essential repairs and accessibility improvements. These include leveling and stabilizing the home, addressing water damage, ensuring reliable heating and cooling, building a safe wheelchair ramp with a covered entrance, and potentially modifying doorways for wheelchair access. The exact scope and costs will depend on assessments and contractor estimates.
How your support would help
Funds would help cover medically related costs not covered by available assistance, transportation to treatment and appointments, recovery-related needs, and essential home repairs and accessibility improvements. I have Illinois Medicaid coverage, but I still need help with the expenses surrounding treatment and making a safe return home possible.
I live on Social Security disability income, and my existing obligations already stretch that income. Support would help me focus on treatment and recovery while working toward a more accessible home.
Still making memories
Cancer has changed what I can physically do, but it has not taken away my imagination or the things I care about. I still enjoy spending time with friends, watching movies, and working on my writing and publishing projects.
After my first brain surgery, I joked that the doctors had installed a zipper so they could get back in later. Facing another surgery, I am trying to hold on to that sense of humor: ROUND 2... FIGHT!
One need, more than one way to help
I also have a GoFundMe titled "Help Me Fight Glioblastoma and Regain My Independence." Both fundraisers would support the same overall needs. I will track donations and expenses across platforms and update supporters as estimates and plans become clearer.
I have submitted an initial request to Help Hope Live to explore fundraising assistance. No assistance or payment has been approved. I am seeking clarification about how any future assistance would coordinate with my fundraising.
If you can donate, thank you. If you cannot, sharing my story or sending encouragement would mean a great deal. I also hope my story helps more people understand glioblastoma and the ways it changes everyday life.
I am not finished making memories. Thank you for helping me work toward treatment, recovery, and a safe return home.
