Throughout spring and early summer, Ezra started having sinus pain, almost constant nose bleeds, along with hearing loss and numbness on one side of his face.
At the ENT appointment in mid August, they were immediately able to see a mass in the nasal cavity by using a nasal scope. They also found a mass on his neck during the exam.
August 26th, Ezra had a surgical procedure to remove part of the growth in the nasal cavity and put a tube in his ear, which improved his hearing for a short while, before losing his hearing on the left side again in September.
The MRI shows the cancer advancing through multiple places in his head and face, also surrounding the carotid arteries on both sides and extending down his throat, among other areas. More testing will be needed to confirm if there’s been advancments to other places of his body.
The pathology came back, reporting as Nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma, undifferentiated subtype. Since nasopharyngeal cancer is relatively rare, there arent a lot of places that are experienced in treatment. As of Sept 14th, connections and doors have opened at University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer center, near Houston TX, (one of the best hospitals in the USA for this type of cancer) for Ezra to get a 2nd opinion and treatment options for him.
Erza has an appointment scheduled Sept 22, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas to start the process of beginning care there.
We're raising funds to help cover travel costs, lodging, groceries, and the logistics of managing everything during this time.
