April has Stage IIIB inflammatory breast cancer in her left breast. It's an aggressive, grade 3 invasive ductal cancer that has spread to nearby lymph nodes and has caused inflammatory changes in the breast. The cancer is HER2-positive, but it is not estrogen- or progesterone-positive. The good news within this difficult diagnosis is that there is currently no evidence of distant spread (M0), and because it is HER2-positive, there are targeted treatments specifically designed to attack HER2-positive cancer. She will have to have a mastectomy surgery after her chemo treatments and infusion treatments every 3 weeks for about the next year. Please share this post. As some of you already know, my mom April has been diagnosed with breast cancer again after beating it the first time. It's a different kind of cancer this time, and her medical team is moving quickly and aggressively to fight it.
She started chemo on September 9th and has to travel to Phoenix for treatment every 3 weeks, plus attend other doctor appointments. While she's focused on her treatment, she's facing increased expenses and has had to take unexpected time off work.
