I have been diagnosed with cancer in December of 2025. I have been a patient of the Mayo in Rochester since early January. 19 appointments and 5 trips to Rochester later, (2 more trips needed in the next weeks) the surgery has been schuduled in March. Sparing the gory details, surgery will consist of a section of bone being removed and replaced with a "donor" a section of bone from another part of my body, yet to be determined. This surgery results in an average 5-day stay in the hospital followed by a 2-week stay in a skilled rehab center. Followed by 2- weeks of daily radiation (excluding weekends). Just recieved my second round of chemo and it seems to be working. Chemo and it's associated health issues, I can say I beat it to the hair loss punch as I have been bic-ing my head since 25 years of age. The associated cost with treatment and travel has been impressively expensive thus far and will increase exponentially in the near future.
