My sister Sandy Phillips was recently diagnosed with Stage 3, Triple Negative, Breast Cancer/Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. She's already started chemotherapy, and while her insurance is covering much of the costs, she and her husband are still responsible for a sizeable, weekly copay of nearly $5000. This will continue for 17 weeks. In addition, she has only a limited amount of paid leave time on the books to utilize when the chemotherapy side effects kick in causing her to miss work and thereby this treatment plan has the potential to dramatically impact their income. Sandy is the mother of 3 children and the grandmother of 4 grandchildren.
