I am the Founder and President of Endangered Places, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing endangered historic homes before they are lost forever. Our first major mission is to save a rare and beautiful 1860s Second Empire Victorian home in upstate New York, often called the Pink Palace by locals.

This house is an extraordinary example of nineteenth century craftsmanship. It features original pocket doors, ornate woodwork, a grand staircase, and its iconic mansard roof. For more than one hundred sixty years it has been a landmark in the community, first as a family home and later as a set of apartments. Years of abandonment, water intrusion, and structural failure have now placed it at immediate risk. The roof is failing, the floors are compromised, and major portions of the structure are deteriorating.

If stabilization does not begin soon, this historic home will not survive.

The good news:

We have the owner’s permission to move forward with emergency stabilization, and the owner is working toward donating the property to Endangered Places. We are in the process of getting In-Kind donations from a local lumberyard, and we are working with the New York State Historic Preservation Office on the process for National Register listing.

To begin stabilization, we urgently need fifty thousand dollars to cover contractor labor, structural supports, equipment rental, debris removal, and other essential costs not covered by donated materials. Every dollar will go directly toward preventing collapse.

Why your support matters:

Historic homes cannot wait. Ten or twenty dollars from enough people can help seal the roof, support weakened structural beams, secure the windows, and stop further damage. This will keep the home standing long enough for larger grants, including the T Mobile Hometown Grant, to be awarded. Once a historic building is lost, it can never be replaced.

What we have accomplished so far:

We have received owner approval for emergency work.

A detailed contractor plan has been created with clear and affordable phases.

A local lumberyard has pledged approximately eleven thousand dollars in materials.

Community support is steadily growing through social media and local outreach.

What we need now:
