Concerned Citizens Protecting the Spokane River

The Concerned Citizens in North Idaho are standing together to stop the expansion of 127 additional boat slips that Stancraft and out of state investors want to add to the old Templin's marina at the west end of the Spokane River.  The investors have to re-apply for a permit to encroach into waters that they DO NOT have a permit for, and they want to take 1.5 - 2 acres of water.  Furthermore, the public is under the impression that these additional slips will be offered for public rental, however, the investors have a plan to build and sell luxury condos (with private boat slips). We DO want residents who don't have a boat slip to be able to enjoy the river as well, but we DON'T want 100+ more easy-access boats at this end!  It's obvious that these luxury condos will not be affordable for teachers, police officers, firefighters, restaurant workers, or many local residents.

The west end of the Spokane River already has 350+ boats in the already crowded no-wake zone, and 127 additional boats will put the area at just under 500 boats moored at this end!  That doesn't count boaters that must launch at the public launch.  It is obvious to everyone that these boats must traverse the ENTIRE river to get to restaurants or Lake Coeur d'Alene. That means the ENTIRE river has added boat traffic, decreased safety for swimmers and paddle boarders, an increased potential for accidents with more boats and waverunners, much more unnecessary stress on river shorelines and docks that are taking a beating, as well as questions of water quality.  Lake Coeur d'Alene is where marinas need to be built or expanded!

Local residents KNOW the Spokane River is extremely narrow and shallow and that the river is approaching Maximum Carrying Capacity!  Many families are afraid to recreate on the river on weekends and holidays because of potential danger, and are using other waterways due to the safety concerns.  This. Is. Wrong. The river should be managed and kept safe so local residents are able to use their river, and wisdom says the expansion should not be done. It just doesn't make sense; why would Idaho Department of Lands approve an expansion at this end of the river?  It's all about money for the City of Post Falls and Idaho Department of Lands.  Profit over People!  $$$$

Concerned Citizens have presented 10-12 detrimental reasons as to why the expansion is not a wise decision, however IDL is not giving value to what the people are saying.  We've all heard the phrase "Follow the Money" -- and it surely applies here!  Concerned Citizens say this river belongs to THE PEOPLE of Idaho, and IDL was given the responsibility to manage Idaho's water and lands, NOT to sell it to the highest bidder!

Join with us as we make our voices heard!  Interest and support grows daily, so continue to SHARE and EDUCATE others. If everyone chips in something towards our Appeal, it will be power and not a heavy lift for a few!  We need $10,000.00 for Step 1!

Thank you Concerned Citizens... LET'S DO IT!
