Muslim Unity Centre have submitted a planning application to turn a nursery unit into a “place of worship” and (you guessed it) “community centre” at 100 & 100A Hirst Crescent, Wembley.

They say “The site has no vehicle access and no off-street parking”.

Their survey figures say 200 visitors on Fridays: “in the order of 40 at each of the five daily prayers and in the order of 100 at each of the two Friday sessions”.

The proposal has been:

1. Refused planning permission by the Council
2. Refused planning permission at appeal against the Council’s decision.
3. Subject to an Enforcement Notice against use of the premises as a “community centre and place of worship”
4. Dismissed at appeal against the Enforcement Notice

This Appeal was dismissed because of concerns about:

1. “adverse effects on the highway network, caused by the increased demand for parking on nearby roads”, and that;
2. “the community centre and place of worship could lead to potential conflict between users and existing residents, and noise complaints which may necessitate enforcement action.”

Councils should stand firm against repeat applications.

Highways safety would still be an issue, with a mosque so close to a number of nurseries, after school clubs, and a primary school.

I am asking you for donations toward the out-of-pocket expenses of £2,000 to resist it.

As usual, none of the money goes to me, but to the costs of fighting this application.
