Several months ago, Beth suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed on the entire left side of her body. Since then, life has changed in ways Beth and Steve never could have imagined.

Beth is doing her best to stay hopeful, determined, and focused on recovery. Progress has been slow, but she is not giving up. Her doctors have said recovery may take another year — possibly even longer — but full recovery is still possible. Beth and Steve believe with all their hearts that anything is possible with God’s help.

Right now, Beth is living in an assisted living environment. While they are grateful for the care she has received, it is not the same as truly living life at home with her husband. Beth’s heart’s desire is to return home to Steve, to wake up in her own home, sit in her own space, and once again spend time in the gardens that have brought her so much peace and joy.

So many people have asked, “How can we help?” For a long time, Beth and Steve honestly did not know how to answer. It is incredibly hard and humbling to ask for help. But they have now reached the point where there is a plan, and they know what is needed to help Beth safely come home.

In order for Beth to return home and continue her recovery, several major supports are needed — many of which Medicare does not cover, or covers only in very limited ways.

These include:

A used electric wheelchair, which can cost between $500 and $2,000.

A used handicap-accessible van, which can cost between $15,000 and $30,000.

Ongoing intensive physical therapy and homecare, with costs still unknown at this time.

Medicare is no longer covering all of Beth’s therapy sessions, so if she is going to have the best chance at a full recovery, she needs more intensive therapy. With stroke recovery, time matters. The longer she goes without the therapy and support she needs, the more difficult recovery may become.

Beth continues to work on the exercises she has been given, doing her best every day to stay strong, keep moving forward, and regain as much independence as possible. But she needs more help than she can do on her own.

These costs are overwhelming, especially because so much of what is needed to safely return home must be paid out of pocket. Believe it or not, even with these significant expenses, this plan would still cost less than what Beth and Steve are currently paying out of pocket for the assisted living services Beth is receiving now.

Asking for financial help is not easy. Beth and Steve are only asking those who feel they are in a position to help. Please know that any amount, large or small, would be received with deep gratitude.

Every donation will help bring Beth one step closer to home — to Steve, to healing, to more independence, and to the life they are praying and working so hard to rebuild. It will also help Beth return to the simple, meaningful parts of life she misses so deeply: being at home, being with her husband, and spending time among her flowers and gardens.

More than anything, this is about helping Beth continue to recover and truly live again. Assisted living has provided care, but home is where her heart is. Home is where she can be with Steve, surrounded by love, comfort, hope, and the gardens that remind her of life, growth, and possibility.
