Adam Karabachi: Fighting to Stay in the USA

My name is Adam Karabachi. I’m facing removal from the only country I’ve ever known — to a third world country, as the only option, where I wouldn’t speak the language and wouldn’t survive. I came to the United States at age three with my mother and my father, legally, and I’ve never left. I was schooled in Massachusetts until the early 1990s, when we moved down to South Florida, and I continued through middle school, high school, and some college until my father passed away. This is my home. My father was my petitioner. He had an approved I-130 family unity petition for me, and I would have gotten my citizenship when he got his. He passed away when I was 21 — a couple months before he was set to take the oath for his citizenship. He is laid to rest here in the United States. Instead, I had to reapply through my mother, and old mistakes from over twenty years ago stood in the way. In 2011, I faced deportation. The only relief available to me was withholding of removal to my country of birth — because returning there would be a death sentence. After that, my mother came down with breast cancer, then thyroid cancer, and we went through COVID together. During COVID, she also developed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which she’s still suffering from today. I am her firstborn son and her caretaker — she relies on me day and night. Additionally My brother and his wife rely on me to help with their ten-month-old son. All of my immediate family are U.S. citizens — my mother, my brother — except me. My uncles, aunt, grandmother, and cousins are U.S. citizens too.

I have already paid five thousand dollars out of pocket for my immigration attorney, with help from my brother. This campaign helps pay for the rest: seventeen thousand five hundred for a post-conviction relief lawyer, plus costs and possible additional legal fees for appeals, nine thousand for immigration counsel to reopen my case if the relief succeeds, and the balance for resettlement if removal happens. I set this up as an easy place for friends and family to donate. I’ve been here my whole life. I believe in God, Family, and Country. If you’re able, please consider giving. If not, prayers are appreciated and just as good.
