My dear friend and sister in Christ, Joan, and I were involved in a serious car accident on Friday night, October 23. By God’s grace, we both walked away with relatively minor injuries, and for that, I am incredibly thankful. Unfortunately, her car was not as blessed and is completely totaled.
While our physical injuries will heal, my heart breaks for the financial hardship Joan now faces.
Joan is already living with a disability, and like so many people on a fixed income, she does everything she can to make ends meet. One of the ways she manages is by driving for Lyft, earning a little extra money to help cover the expenses her disability income doesn’t.
Just five months ago, she purchased the car that made that possible. Now, through no fault of her own, that car is gone, and so is her ability to earn that additional income.
While we hope insurance will take care of the vehicle, the immediate financial hardship remains. Her bills aren’t going to stop coming while she waits to get back on the road.
Joan is my best friend and roommate, and I wish I could take this burden off her shoulders myself, but I can’t. That’s why I’m reaching out and asking others to help.
Every dollar raised will go toward helping Joan cover her living expenses, offset her lost income, and ease the financial burden as she works toward getting back on the road.
If you’re able to contribute, thank you. If you’re not, sharing this fundraiser and keeping her in your prayers would be a blessing in itself.
Sometimes being the hands and feet of Christ means showing up for someone when life has knocked them down. I’m hoping we can do exactly that for Joan.
