Fighting Lawfare From the Far Left

Hey everyone! I'm reaching out to you today from the heart of Oregon, where things have taken a turn. You might remember me as the one always on the ground, covering those chaotic nightly protests in Portland - covering it all, from the Far Left’s attacks on ICE and their allies, down to every small skirmish that unfolds around us each night.

It's been a rough ride, honestly. Each day is like stepping into an unpredictable battlefield; I've faced physical assaults several times and attempted robbery. In one of those terrifying moments this summer, when things were getting out of hand and it felt like danger was closing in on Katie (my friend and fellow reporter) and me, I had to use pepper spray for the first time - to protect us from someone threatening to hit us with a metal flagpole. It's surreal looking back now, but that’s just how intense these moments have been.

Now here comes the twist in this already dramatic story: The person involved in that incident has filed a lawsuit against me under an obscure statute requiring me to pay their legal fees even they only win a dollar in damages! That means if they manage to squeeze out even a single dollar from me, I’d not only have to cough up whatever sum is awarded but also cover the whopping $50,000+ in attorney costs for my attorney and theirs.

I'm self-employed and just don't have that kind of cash lying around—especially when you consider how progressive Multnomah county could rule against me and there is precedent for them not being fair to conservatives. It’s a terrifying possibility because I simply cannot afford to lose this case, financially or legally speaking. It would be devastating not only for my career but also personally, as it feels like an unfair setup against someone who's just doing their job in the most trying circumstances imaginable.
