Update: Goldie sadly passed away yesterday 😭 we got her to the vet and they tried giving her fluids and diarrhea medicine, but it was too late. She passed away an hour after she got home. We gave her a proper burial a few feet away from where our first bottle baby Gordo is buried and planted a lavender bush above her.
Good news: I got a quote from the vet for the cost of spaying and neutering the cats in our feral colony. It's going to cost $1,620 and Goldie's vet care costs added up to be $200. Thank you for your donations! I'm getting an Amazon wishlist set up for the other kitten that's still in our care.
I have lived in this neighborhood in Lewiston Idaho most of my life. Feral cats have always been around, but as of late it has gotten way out of hand. A couple months ago, we found an abandoned kitten in our yard. Sadly, he was only a few days old and despite our efforts he didn't end up surviving.
We discovered by accident that he had two siblings when my husband forgot to close his truck windows and discovered the mama had brought them in there for safe keeping. She moved them the next morning before we could get a nursery and live trap set up for them.
3 weeks later, we found one of these kittens ditched in our driveway, the other sibling nowhere to be found, so we took her in. Luna is her name and she is thriving! She needs to be dewormed and spayed before we can adopt her out, and she needs to be tested for feline AIDS as this is common in our neighborhood's feral cat colony.
Another kitten was found abandoned by a feral kitten in a nearby rural town. She is approximately 3 weeks old but is extremely malnourished and has blood in her stool. I tried to get her help through a rescue and their preferred vet, but they don't have the funds to hospitalize her and she likely won't survive long without aggressive hospital care. I have one more shot at getting her the help she needs, but this is where I URGENTLY need the assistance of my community and friends. I'm taking Goldie to get a second opinion tomorrow (9/21) but if they do hospitalize her, it will be very costly. If you feel drawn to help me with this cause, Goldie and I would greatly appreciate it. If she doesn't survive, or if they feel she is beyond hope and need euthanasia, the funds will help with this cost. Any other funds leftover will go towards helping Luna and the other feral cats with veterinary care, including deworming and spay/neuter costs.
