Pia's Path

When we rescued Pia, we did so fully expecting that we would personally take responsibility for the cost of her care. We weren't planning a fundraiser. We simply knew this little girl needed help, and we committed to giving it to her.

But as Pia's story has unfolded, something we didn't expect happened: so many of you reached out and asked how you could help us help her. We have been overwhelmed by that kindness, and we are incredibly grateful.

Pia is only three years old — still a baby with hopefully an entire lifetime ahead of her. Unfortunately, her first few years were not what she deserved. She suffered a significant traumatic injury that left her hip chronically dislocated and her pelvis fractured. She was then sold without having received the appropriate medical evaluation and treatment her condition warranted. By the time she came to us, her body had been compensating for this injury for so long that a false joint had formed in her pelvis, along with severe muscle loss in her hind end.

Right now, Pia is undergoing specialized prehab at $120 per day to build as much strength and muscle as possible before surgery. She will need at least four weeks of prehab, followed by a major FHO surgery estimated at $5,000–$7,000. If we successfully get her through surgery, we anticipate another 4–6 months of specialized rehabilitation. New Bolton has made clear that her lack of supporting pelvic musculature makes strengthening and diligent rehabilitation particularly important to giving her the best possible outcome.

But with Pia, we need to take this one step at a time. Her overall prognosis for health and continued comfort is considered fair, and her veterinarians are understandably guarded about the success of surgery because of how severe and chronic her injury is. We are terrified about what may come but this is her only chance at living a long comfortable life.

So our immediate focus is simple: build her strength and get her through surgery. We will tackle the long road of post-surgical rehabilitation when we get to the other side.

Because so many of you have asked to be part of Pia's journey, we are finally saying yes. We would be incredibly grateful for your help.

Our initial fundraising goal is $12,000, which will help cover diagnostics, one month of Pia's specialized prehab and her surgery.

You can sponsor part of Pia's journey:

❤️ Give a Little – Help a Lot — Any Amount

❤️ ❤️One Day Sponsor — $120

❤️❤️ ❤️ One Week Sponsor — $840

There is absolutely no contribution too small. Every dollar helps us give Pia the care she was denied for far too long.

To all of you who want to stand beside us…thank you. You're not simply helping to pay a veterinary bill. You're helping give a three-year-old pony the only chance to overcome her past and have the long, comfortable and happy life she should have had all along.

This is Pia's Path Forward. One step at a time. Thank you for walking it with us!
