Justice For My Religious Accommodation Denial

My Backstory & Who I Am

I was employed by WestJet Airlines as a flight attendant for 13 years, since 2008. This was not only a beloved career to me, but also a passion and a lifestyle, that brought me a sense of profound accomplishment, pride,& purpose. My work layovers & flight benefits offered me the chance to maintain in-person connections with family & friends in various places in the world, which was extremely important to me. As I held a desirable aircrew position for a significant part of my life, it became part of my identity.

But beyond a career, my true identity is in Christ. And as a devout Christian, seeking God for guidance, through prayer, for major decisions in my life, has always been a huge part of my regular practice of faith. Even long before the COVID-19 "vaccine" mandate was ever implemented, or even before I knew many details about the "vaccine", God actually gave me a warning, through prayer and spiritual discernment, to stay far away from this. I believe that "..your body is the temple of The Holy Spirit..." and that we should "glorify God in your body...", as stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, so I would have dishonoured God if I disobeyed Him. The discoveries of other details, that came later, correlated with God's earlier instructions, offering understandable & substantial Scriptural implications.

I believe in the sanctity of all human life & that God has chosen & created each person with purpose, even before and at the moment of conception. This conviction is deeply rooted in my faith & reflected in God's Word (Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139: 13,16). I believe God has given us a moral duty to defend the innocent & voiceless and to take no part in the shedding of innocent human blood (Exodus 20:13 and 23:7). I discovered the COVID-19 "vaccines" were developed, tested, & manufactured using abortion-derived fetal cells/cell lines. Accepting this "vaccine" would have violated my faith & conscience, while also compromising my relationship with God.

My sincere dedication to obey God's Word & instructions, outweighed the threat of losing my beloved career. My stand on this matter was clear and strong from the beginning, and unwavering to this day.

As WestJet attempted to enforce the COVID-19 "vaccine", I requested a religious accommodation from them in 2021, as it was my legally protected right to do so, citing my deeply held genuine Christian beliefs & convictions. I weighed the possible unjust cost to me, yet I was not willing to compromise my convictions. Nor should I have ever been coerced to do so, under the threat of losing my career I loved for 13 years. Although persecution is a part of a Christian's life, this does not mean that we should tolerate injustices. For this reason, I took a stand, and I continue to defend my religious freedoms and human rights.

What Happened

After submitting my request Dec 2021, I encountered the following:

  1. Jan 4, 2022 - WestJet denied my request, while making insulting false claims about me and my beliefs, that I only offered "secular" and "philosophical" reasons.
  2. Jan 13, 2022 - CUPE (my union) would not grieve my denial, although I pleaded
  3. Jan 21, 2022 - WestJet fired me, with no severance given. I was only 2 years away from my milestone 15-year goal of my "flights for life" retirement eligibility.
  4. Feb-Mar 2022 - I requested CUPE to file a termination grievance, and I requested arbitration, but it was placed in abeyance, without my consent
  5. Oct 2022 - Once mandates lifted, WestJet offered to reinstate me, but required me to sign a new contract which was full of lies. My conscience could not sign anything agreeing to lies as truth, where they claimed they did not violate my rights. CUPE later withdrew my grievance & closed my file.
  6. Oct 2022 - I filed a Human Rights Complaint, with the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

Current Legal Stage & Possible Future Steps

  1. With the help of my incredible lawyer, James Kitchen, we are taking the next step with my human rights complaint.
  2. If my matter is summarily dismissed by the Commission, we will appeal. If not, we move to mediation, and hopefully reach a good settlement.
  3. If mediation results are not satisfactory, my lawyer and I are prepared to take this to a tribunal hearing to seek proper fulfillment of justice.

Why This Case Matters

My employer, WestJet, harmed me in several ways:

  1. they failed legal obligations to grant me an accommodation, when I needed one
  2. they disrespected & dismissed my sincerely held beliefs
  3. they misjudged, misrepresented, & even insulted my sincere Christian faith. They overstepped their authority, by falsely defining my beliefs & convictions.
  4. I was never granted a grievance for my accommodation denial, nor given opportunity for arbitration, which I had constantly pleaded for.
  5. I was unjustly fired, simply for my faith, and without severance
  6. they forced me to decide between salvaging my cherished career or preserving my conscience, relationship with God, & deeply held Christian beliefs. This is coercion and abuse of authority.

Why I Need Your Support

For so many years, I have carried the burden of this injustice, privately enduring stress, anxiety, grief, & even depression at times, all while under major financial loss & strain.

Finally, after years of paperwork & anticipation for this next step with the Human Rights Commission, & finding the right lawyer, it is now only finances I lack in my pursuit of justice. I cannot carry this financial burden alone. As I have exhausted all other financial avenues up to this point, I see no other option, but to call upon community to assist me now.

A Personal Plea

For much too long, I have quietly endured this, without full legal support or resources. For someone like myself, who loves to bless others, it is uncomfortable for me to ask for help.

But with humility, my perspective has shifted to view this as an opportunity to practice my faith even more. After all, I did not arrive at this current stage in the process, without a lot of prayer applied to each step of the way. As I have full confidence God can provide all we need when we follow His lead, I believe He will bless anyone partnering with His will.

If you believe in basic human rights, religious freedom, & fair treatment, I implore you to support me in my journey to receive justice & hope for a greater impact beyond myself.

Tolerating injustices only allows repetition of them. This harms so many of us. Isaiah 1:17 even states to "....do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor;..".

My motivations to win my case extend beyond impacting me alone. I hope you are compelled to be part of the positive change we need in this world, one person at a time, like myself.

Psalm 82:3-4 states a duty expected of us to "defend the weak.... do justice.. uphold the cause of the afflicted and needy. Rescue the poor and needy..."

Every contribution matters, big or small, as it still creates a collective impact. It is not the amount, but the heart's intent. God also sees your motivation & will honor your participation. I greatly appreciate any and all support. Please pray about it, & give only what you can, or what God instructs. Just as I am stepping out in faith, He may require you to practice yours as well. Yet I have chosen to trust God through this process, no matter what.

Please consider sharing my story & this link to give many others the opportunity to support.

Above all, please pray for me in this fight for truth & justice. First & foremost, I understand this is a spiritual battle, & I have experienced intense spiritual warfare over this matter. But I recognize the power of prayer as my best defense, alongside God's Word.

With deep gratitude, I sincerely want to thank each & every one of you, who choose to support me with prayers, shares, & finances. Every contribution moves me closer to my goal for justice, and it is truly encouraging. And I believe, collectively we can create a much more powerful positive impact in this world. Thank you for your consideration to support my legal battle. It means so much to me. I will never forget the support you gave.

My Prayer Over You Who Stand With Me

"Heavenly Father, I ask you to shine your light down upon every single person who contributes in this righteous mission with their prayers, shares, & finances. Bless them beyond their understanding or imagination. Shower them with your love, shield them with your protection, & shelter them with your provision. And above all Lord, lift their spirits with a personal encounter with your Holy Spirit. AMEN."
