Help Support Jared Through His Recovery

We are setting up this fundraiser to support our dear friend, Jared, as he begins a long road of recovery following major spinal surgery.

For more than 15 years, Jared has known that neck surgery could eventually be in his future. He was born with a congenitally narrow spinal canal, leaving significantly less room for his spinal cord than normal. Because of this, even a relatively small disc injury can result in serious spinal cord compression.

Unfortunately, this year that became a reality.

In March, Jared suffered a herniated disc that compressed his spinal cord. What initially seemed like a severe pulled muscle quickly became something much more serious. After testing, multiple MRIs, and consultations with surgeons, he was told that surgery was necessary. He was also instructed to avoid activities that could result in a fall or significant impact, as further injury could potentially cause permanent paralysis.

After months of medical appointments, restrictions, and uncertainty, Jared recently underwent a major spinal procedure. The surgery included a one-level anterior fusion, a multi-level posterior laminoplasty to create more room for his spinal cord, and a posterior fusion at the affected level.

Thankfully, his surgeon reported that the procedure went very well. Jared is experiencing significant pain and is dealing with unexpected numbness in his left shoulder that doctors are continuing to monitor. At the same time, there have been very encouraging signs. He regained noticeable feeling in his fingers, hands, and legs almost immediately following surgery—a tremendous blessing and an encouraging start to his recovery.

The road ahead will take time. There is still uncertainty about how much neurological function he will ultimately regain, and additional treatment may be necessary in the future.

Along with the physical challenges, this experience has created a significant financial burden through medical expenses and lost income. We are hoping to help ease some of that burden so Jared can focus on what matters most right now: healing and recovering.
