Educational Experience to Brazil

To Family and Friends,

This is it--my Senior Year at Mullen High School and I’m so excited to share exciting news for 2027!

I have been chosen to join 30 of my peers to be part of Mullen’s J-Term/Mullen’s Academic Travel Program to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I need your support.

J-Term will start at my school’s campus on January 5^th-7^th. During these days, I will be having daily sessions learning about Catholicism in Brazil, Lasallian Mission in Brazil, and Brazilian Culture. On January 8^th, we will start our journey to Rio de Janeiro and will return on January 15^th. 

Throughout these days, I will be focusing on pre-trip assignments, daily class work during the trip, and post trip assignments as part of my academic grade.

I would like to share some of the exciting activities and places that I will get to experience while on this trip:

1. Visit Christ the Redeemer (one of the new 7 wonders of the world)
2. Tour Maracana Stadium (a legendary football (soccer) stadium)
3. Experience Brazilian Culture including dancing (Pedra do Sal-the birthplace of the samba and dance celebration) and a cooking class
4. Visit Rocinha, Rio’s largest favela
5. Join a Capoeria class
6. Mass at St. Sebastian Cathedral
7. Visit to Ecola La Salle University
8. Service Day - collaborate with a local organization for a community service project
9. Boulevard Olimpico
10. Cachoeira do Horto Waterfall
11. Prainha Beach
12. Museum of Tomorrow

To make this once in a lifetime opportunity a reality, I am currently fundraising to help with expenses. I am asking for donations to help me reach my goal of $4,850. Which will include airfare and all travel accommodations. This experience will help me grow my understanding of other cultures, broaden my worldview, and provide me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to service in another country.
