Doug Fortney is a beloved member of the South-Central Pennsylvania community and a proud military veteran.

Many will remember Doug through his parents’ Case-O-Beer store that he helped run for decades. Doug and his family were part of the daily rhythm of the Colonial Park area, known for treating customers with warmth, kindness, and respect.

Doug and his wife Lupe shared 45 years together in a loving and deeply supportive marriage that extended well beyond their own home. At various times, they were a steady “mom and dad” presence to neighborhood kids — offering meals, conversation, and a safe place to talk when it was needed most.

During Lupe’s long illness, Doug was her primary caregiver and remained by her side through her final days. He was with Lupe in the hospital when she passed on September 30, 2025. Since then, Doug has been going through intense mourning.

In the midst of exhaustion and acute grief with all his thoughts and care for Lupe's illness, Doug became the target of a highly sophisticated, multi-layered fraud. The predators manipulated him into believing he needed to transfer his savings into a new account for protection — an account that later proved to be fraudulent. The final call occurred just four hours after Doug returned home from the hospital following Lupe’s passing, when he was overwhelmed, not thinking clearly, and especially vulnerable. In that moment, his entire life savings were drained.

The funds have not been recoverable and Doug now faces mounting financial strain. This includes end-of-life expenses, funeral costs, and maintaining the home he shared with Lupe.

This campaign exists to surround Doug with care, compassion, and practical support during an unimaginably difficult journey— helping him meet increasing expenses and maintain financial stability as he grieves.
