Michael Murphy has been a Doorman at 680 N. Lakeshore for 40 years. Instead of celebrating his 40th anniversary with the people that he loves, On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Michael suffered a stroke & fell, striking his head upon a table. This stroke left him unable to move himself away from an oscillating heater for days, which severely burned his right side of his body. Michael was transported to Christ Hospital but had to be moved to the Burn ICU at Loyola Hospital in Maywood due to the severity of his burns. Michael is currently being treated for ongoing blood clots, kidney failure, and is undergoing a series of surgeries to excise the burnt muscle from his wounds & remedy infection to try to save his right arm from amputation, on top of being treated for a stroke of which the extent of is not yet known. Sadly, Michael had to undergo a life changing surgery. Today, February 9 2026, a Transradial amputation of his right hand and forearm up to the elbow was performed. Unfortunately, this is one of many surgeries he has already undergone and he has many more to go working towards his path to recovery. Mike had another surgery today in regards to the burn on his hip/buttocks. It was to clean up any remaining debris/ bad tissue in a pretty sizable wound cavity from the burns that he sustained. We just were recently made aware of it's severity.

They also removed a large scab on his nose/forehead and performed a skin graft to close the wound.

Mike also has a substantial size wound on his chest/side which can't be closed completely due to the nature of the wound. It is only loosely sutured together on purpose in order to regularly check for infection. He also had a surgery for a permanent port to be installed in his neck for dialysis.

They are planning to transfer him next week to another facility. It's an LTAC( Long Term Acute Care facility ) located in Hinsdale.

Mike has been transferred to RML Specialty Hospital. Located  at 5601 S County Line Road in Hinsdale, Illinois

Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity towards Michael. Mike needs extensive therapy on his journey to regain his ability to walk and to overcome his new challenges. While progress has been limited, we are ever so grateful for your support.
