From Rachel: When I started this campaign, I didn't know what to say, I am not sure I still do honestly, so I'll stick to the facts and what's needed from us.

The facts, our friend, my good friend, Kat Ainsworth Stevens has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and things are happening fast. From diagnosis to treatment is about a month. That was a month to learn she had cancer and prepare for a double mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery.

This fundraiser is to help her with medical bills, she is a freelance writer, so has no insurance coverage unfortunately. (these things can exceed $30, 000 without other expenses), including reconstructive surgery. This will also help cover any house bills she may have and other expenses to buy needed items.

She's a loving mother of 2 great children, one still quite young, and she's an avid outdoor writer, which is her life. While healing she will not be able to write at all, so income will be cut short to say the least.

She has always been the first one there to help her friends and community, now lets help her.

UPDATE 1 from Kat: Most of you know me as a gun writer and fan of sarcasm. I've been a writer in the outdoor industry for over a decade. Asking for help isn't my thing. At all. But here I am. 

To answer questions, this fundraiser covers medical bills that are, indeed, out of my pocket. Too rich for most assistance (hahahaha), too poor to throw tens of thousands at cancer. The surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologist, cardiologist, pathologist...these all bill are separate from the hospital. So while the hospital is working with me, all those other bills must be paid as I go. Not at the end. Not someday. Now. I have a very short window of time to handle this.

I need help, guys. Any help is welcome, including good karma, prayers, well wishes (or bad wishes, you know who you are).
