THANK YOU for taking a moment to learn about some of the Literacy Goals for the children of Exuma that are very much needed here in the Exumas, Bahamas.

Thanks to your support, this summer (2024), Bahamas Children's Mission hosted an Academic Summer Camp for kids. The impact of this camp will reach FAR beyond the joy of summer activities. We provided diagnostic testing, placement, TARGETED tutoring and academic support to help Exuma's children bridge learning gaps and overcome reading & math deficits. (It's not just about improving literacy & math rates - it's about empowering young minds with the tools they need for a successful future!) We are excited to announce that EVERY camper made reading gains!  We want to capitalize on those amazing reading gains and continue helping this group on their literacy journey by providing FREE reading tutoring at their schools throughout the '24-'25 school year! We have already begun our tutoring at the island's schools and forming our roster for the BCM Summer Literacy Camp for 2025--and we would be SO grateful for your support for the upcoming summer camp for 2025 as well! 

We are seeking contributions to help with some critical learning materials & resources, a large capacity printer/ink for copies, and some start-up website costs for our mission. The website will be interactive for parents and students to receive Literacy and Math tutoring wherever they are in The Bahamas. 

Almost every time I go to a school, or happen to meet a parent out in the community, they ask if I could please help their child with reading. Reaching more than one student at a time who needs support requires a valid system, not just an hour here and there, for tutoring. Yes, schools welcome the support we offer, but they often lack the space and academic time to share with a helper who comes into the schools. Classroom space is limited - and lunchtime is not a quiet environment for academics either. Having a dedicated literacy SUV, with word walls, vocabulary centers, and leveled reading books already SET UP & in place--a literacy vehicle that just pulls up to the school, and the kids come out and get started working right away -- would enable MUCH more EFFECTIVE learning time to help students conquer their learning gaps and goals. Our plan is to acquire a donated OLDER SUV (with ISLAND APPROPRIATE tires & 4WD and suspension)  and modify the vehicle to make it a "literacy learning lab" on wheels!
