Our sweet boy, Kaiser, has just been diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his back left leg. I took Kaiser to the vet expecting to be sent home with a brace or cast of some sort for what I thought was maybe a sprained foot. Hearing the word “cancer” in relation to our dog has been absolutely heartbreaking, but we are determined to give him the best possible chance at a long and happy life.
Kaiser is truly the sweetest, most cuddly, loving boy ever. To know him is to love him. He is the definition of “gentle giant” and has the biggest heart, and he gives that love freely to everyone he meets. He is the kind of dog who leans into you for pets, follows you from room to room, and somehow always knows when you need a little extra love.
He is no stranger to fighting. Two years ago, Kaiser was diagnosed with diabetes and we almost lost him when he went into diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). It was at the time, one of the most terrifying experiences. We truly didn’t know if he would make it — but he did. He fought so hard, and since then we’ve adjusted our lives to carefully manage his diabetes so he can continue living the happy life he deserves.
Now, he is facing another battle.
The recommended course of action is amputation of his back left leg to remove the cancer and give him the best chance at survival. While the thought is emotional, we know he is strong, and we are ready to support him every step of the way. Following surgery, he will need chemotherapy and ongoing follow-up testing and scans to monitor for any spread.
Our dogs are family. Kaiser is not “just a dog,” he is our comfort and a constant source of joy. The idea of losing him is unbearable, and we are committed to doing everything we can to help him fight this.
Any funds raised will go directly toward:
• Amputation of his leg
• Chemotherapy treatments
• Follow-up testing and monitoring
• Post-operative care
